The Botswana Renewable Energy Fellowship is an eight-month, part-time fellowship designed to train 35 Botswanan youth leaders to develop them as renewable energy leaders.
The program is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy Botswana, with funding provided by the U.S. Government. It is implemented by GAYO Botswana, with 10 Billion Strong serving as an implementing partner.
Program Model & Objectives
The fellowship consists of a combination of in-person and virtual sessions designed to help participants explore potential career pathways in renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
- Empower participants to understand local and global environmental issues, and develop leadership skills to create positive change.
- Enhance participants’ knowledge of renewable energy opportunities and innovations.
- Provide guidance on how participants might establish renewable energy ventures or work within existing frameworks.
- Foster lasting relationships between emerging leaders and experts from Botswana and the U.S., facilitating long-term resource sharing and collaboration.
Program Timeline
- December 6, 2024: Kick-off event in Gaborone, Botswana.
- December 2024 – February 2025: 15-module (approx. 30 hours) online Green Leaders Academy at your own pace.
- February-March 2025: Participants complete a renewable energy accelerator featuring interactive workshops.
- April-May 2025: Individual or group projects to advance participants’ renewable energy career prospects or launch initiatives.
- June or July 2025: Wrap-up event in Gaborone, celebrating the fellowship’s progress and outcomes.
Program Eligibility
- Current university students and recent graduates (within one year of graduation) in Botswana.
- Students and recent graduates of BUAN, University of Botswana and Botho University ONLY.
- Demonstrated interest in renewable energy.
- Demonstrated passion for environmental issues.
- Ability to commit to the program from December 2024 to July 2025.
