The Tanzania Circular Economy Fellowship is a seven-month, part-time fellowship designed to train 15 Tanzanian university students and 45 early-stage women entrepreneurs to develop them as circular economy leaders.
The program is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam. It is implemented by 10 Billion Strong, in partnership with HUDEFO, a leading Tanzanian NGO.

Program Model & Objectives
The program equips Tanzanian university students and circular economy business leaders with the skills and knowledge to promote sustainable business growth. Through a combination of in-person workshops and virtual sessions, participants will learn how to apply circular economy principles and advanced technologies to create impactful solutions that benefit both the environment and the economy.
The program objectives include:
•Enabling participants to develop a deep understanding of sustainable business practices and circular economy principles.
•Building capacity for participants to integrate advanced technologies, such as AI, into their business operations for enhanced efficiency and growth.
•Supporting participants in documenting and sharing best practices of circular economy businesses, particularly those led by women, to inspire broader adoption.
•Strengthening connections between emerging leaders and subject matter experts, fostering long-term relationships for continued learning and resource sharing.
•Highlighting successful examples of circular economy strategies from around the world that can be adapted to the Tanzanian context to drive business and environmental outcomes.
Program Timeline
December: Kick-off event in Dar es Salaam in early December.
January-March: Circular economy accelerator which features live online training workshops, deep-dive into circular business models, support to leverage artificial intelligence, and a one-day in-person workshop in Dar es Salaam in mid/ late March.
April-May: Development of a circular entrepreneur handbook and entrepreneur hands-on support with mentors.
June: Wrap-up event and symposium in Dar es Salaam to share program impact.
Program Eligibility
- Current university student (15 spots) OR early or mid-stage women circular economy entrepreneur (45 spots).
- Based in the Dar es Salaam region.
- Ability to communicate in English.
- Demonstrated interest in the circular economy.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental issues.
- Ability to commit to the program from December, 2024 until June, 2025.
